Demonstratives در زبان انگلیسی

این گروه از  determiner  ها _ Demonstratives _  چند اسم دارند:

رایج ترین Demonstratives

، this ، that  ،  these ، those هستند. This ، that   قبل از اسم های مفرد و these ( شکل جمع this ) و these ( شکل جمع that ) قبل از اسم های جمع می آیند. همچنین برای مشخص کردن چیزهای نزدیک ( this) ، دور ( that ) ، تعداد چیزها (یک =this/that ، بیشتر از یک = these ،those ) ، یا دقیقا مشخص کردن شخص یا چیزی(this thing or this person = not that thing or that person) .determiner ها باید در شمار هم با اسم هم خوانی داشته باشد .

مثال:

(e.g. this donkey is/these donkeys are; that monkey has/those monkeys have). 

This bucket has a hole in it.

Behind that fat monkey is a small monkey.

The children sleep on these mattresses on the floor.

We are ready to chop those cabbages.

Demonstratives (صفات اشاره ی) this  و  that با اسم های مفرد و these  و  those با اسم های جمع می آیند.

مثال:

This colour is not found in the rainbow. 

That hill was shaped almost like a human head.

These footprints are left by a three-toed creature.

They were trying to hatch those dinosaur eggs. 

 صفات اشاره ی this  و  these اشاره به شخص یا شی ء نزدیک و that  و  those اشاره به شخص یا شیء دور دارند.

مثال:

Look at this photo of Nessie.

I will ask that policeman the way to the police station.

Listen to these voices and tell me whose.

Those strangenoises came from the roof.

آیا determiner ها الزامی هستند؟

 اسم ها لزوما نیاز به determiner ندارند و اگر بدون determiner ، معنی قابل فهم باشد مشکلی وجود ندارد. اگر این  determiner  همراه اسم نباشند دیگر determiner  نیستند بلکه ضمیر هستند.

مثال:

Whose is this?

Don’t touch these..

Look at that, everyone.

Those are not mine.

This, that, these, those  اگر قبل از عدد بیایند ضمیر هستند و دیگر determiner  نیستند.

مثال:

This one smells as bad as that one.

These two are bigger than those three

اگر اسمی یک صفت داشته باشد determiner قبل از صفت قرار میگیرد.

مثال:

This ugly scar is caused by an operation. 

That big turkey makes a funny gobbling sound.

These edible snails are our favourite.

Those old blankets are full of holes. 

تفاوت determiner و ضمیر

کلمات this, that, these, those باوجود determiner بودن ، ضمیر هم هستند و راه تشخیص این است که برخلاف ضمیر، determiner قبل از اسم می آید.

This potato is still hot.	This is a hot potato.
That duckling is ugly.	That is a very ugly duckling.
These apples are rotten.	These are rotten apples.
Those dark clouds are gathering overhead.	Those are dark clouds gathering overhead.
